ABOUT US
and why we do this
b.c.
c.s.
As two students of Logos International School we have been working on a health project and stumbled upon the topic of FAST FOOD.
Of course, it intrigues us as we are also victims of fast food. During the process of understanding this topic, we were able to learn many things that we wanted to share with the society. From our perspective, we see this as a problem that many are no aware of and we want to bring as much help as we can.
OUR MAIN GOAL: to decrease or entirely get rid of the amount of fast food that is consumed by one person and we want to do this by raising awareness about this topic.
WHAT IS FAST FOOD?
and introduction to fast food, specifically in Phnom Penh
FAST FOOD: easily prepared processed food served in snack bars and restaurants as a quick meal or to be taken away.
Phnom Penh Local Chains: Carl’s Jr, Starbucks, Dominos Pizza, Vons Chicken, etc.
The foreign fast food concept is invading the burgeoning capital of Phnom Penh already. Currently, more Asian franchises are being purchased due to the high expense of Western franchises. Even though we do not have McDonalds, the “Asian Invasion” still brings the terror of fast food into people’s lives—whether they know it or not.
Chicken remains superior in Cambodia's food market which sparked many fried chicken restaurants. Hamburgers have been made sweeter to suit Asian tastes (myBurgerLab’s Chin Reny). Urbanization has swiftly come into Cambodia and perhaps enough to "skip the Mcdonalds phase".
Cambodians are the healthiest eaters in the world, actually, but Cambodia suffers from the lack of quality food which leads to obesity.
THE PROBLEM
with fast food and why we need to know about it
physical and mental
short term and long term
1. weight gain
2. high blood pressure
3. dental distress
4. blood sugar spikes
5. respiratory problems
6. acne
7. puffiness
8. depression
9. addiction
10. cancer
11. digestive issues
12. heart disease and stroke
CONTAINS:
high rates of sugar, salt, trans fats which are detrimental if excess amounts are constantly consumedvery high in calories, but there are almost no nutrients that are necessary to human bodiesaddicting just like drugs and alcoholhigh in carbohydrates which may trigger carbohydratesa lot of sodium which can elevate blood pressure and stress your heart
WHY SHOULD WE KNOW?
Informing people may prevent a person's health from going down hill and a lot of money that may be spent on doctor appointments. We can help completely change a person's life if we, first, change their perspective on fast food.
OUR EXPERTS
We would like to say that we ARE NOT experts on this topic nor are we doctors or want to force you to do what we tell you. However, we have interviewed and talked with 2 experts in our school. They have provided us with information that we have been using in our website + much more research.
1st expert: a whole foods eater and health teacher
2nd expert: a school nurse
THE SOLUTION
that we have thought of
We plan to bring awareness to this situation through EDUCATION!
1. this small but interactive website
2. our posters that will be placed around our community
If we had more power, time, and money we would have:
made a youtube video explaining the negative effects of fast foodtranslated all our resources into the our different languages (korean and khmer)created a billboard, not to promote fast food, but to contradict itstarted an organization to help people who are sufferingmade a healthy and affordable diet plan for victims
OUR TARGET: people with lesser dietary knowledge
People with advanced knowledge need to help spread the seriousness of the invasion by speaking in public and standing up for the community's health.
